great opportunity for me to kind of get myself out there. (My clients) would also benefit because they would be shown how to do an exercise,” she said. Goff’s boot camps have taken place at Flex Fitness for the past three years.
However, her passion was not always her career. She first got started leading boot camps in 2013 for the teachers where she worked.
“I went to college and didn’t complete my degree but I learned a lot about the fitness industry and nutrition,” Goff said. “Still, I thought, ‘You know what, I could probably take this and use this and make it like a career, like a lifestyle change for me and for other people.’
“So, back in like 2013, I was a paraprofessional reading teacher at Lake Hamilton Middle School. I started thinking, ‘You know what, this might be a good opportunity for me to kind of start dipping my feet into the fitness world.’ So I then started a fitness boot camp for teachers, and that went over pretty well. ... It became very difficult to do a full-time teaching job and starting a new boot camp at Flex Fitness so I decided a couple of years ago to quit my teaching job and fulfill my fitness career.”
Goff has gone from teaching classes as small as four to groups now as large as 50. She jokes that people love to get yelled at by her.
“I do have a large, fairly loyal following as far as my clientele goes. But not only that, I think one of the things that I kind of pride myself on is my per- sonal relationship with my client. I do have 50 people in my boot camp, but I can also say we’re friends. I know that might come across as sort of cheesy or whatever, but I mean, I’m in contact with them almost daily,” she said.
Although it is a fitness boot camp, Goff said that her group is very close both in and out of camp. She feels the bonds formed help keep her clients motivated to keep coming back.
“To see complete strangers come together in camp to be great friends outside of camp makes me so happy. To see them lift each other, motivate each other on social media, and even go on hikes and runs with each other, makes my heart full of joy. Friendships being made in my camp is one of my happiest moments as a trainer because changing your lifestyle can be very intimidating and scary for most people and its something that can’t be done alone. Although they have me, they’re pushing them. They also have each other to push and motivate them even more,” she said.
