Over the course of the last few months, society as a whole experienced a massive shift from face-to-face interactions to social distancing, shutdowns, and even self-isolation. Through it all, women everywhere are learning to adapt, improvise, and overcome all the new challenges thrown at them. For local fitness trainer and fitness boot camp instructor Miranda Goff, that meant finding a way to reach her clients and keep them motivated without anyone leaving their living rooms.
“I’ve always been involved in fitness, like my whole life. I was a competi- tive swimmer for 10 years and I trained six days a week,” Goff said.
“I was taught at the very young age of seven, how to be disciplined and how (to do) hard work, and how successful you can be if you work hard and you kind of go after what you want. I kind of took what I learned from swim- ming all those years and kind of applied it to my own lifestyle personally.”
Goff instructs the popular fitness boot camp Flex Camp at Flex Fitness. Over the past three years, she has worked with clients at the gym not only to achieve their fitness and weight loss goals but also to implement healthy lifestyle changes that will stay with them for years to come.
“It’s something that doesn’t get old when you have a client that texts you out of nowhere, or messages you, or calls you, or even tells you in person that this has been a lifesaver. (They tell me), ‘It’s helped me with my relationship with my significant other, become a better mom, a better employee because I feel better.’ And the confidence that they gain is amazing,” she said.
However, Goff has only recently been able to hold her boot camps in person. Luckily, she was ahead of the curve. Before all gyms in the state were forced to close due to COVID-19, Goff was already navigating the intricacies of online fitness coaching after undergoing shoulder surgery.
“Being the person who I am, who is always active and out there helping people, I thought, ‘There has got to be a way to do this but maybe not in per-
