Champagnolle Landing Senior Wellness Center has grown significantly since they opened at the TAC House in 2003. Originally a meal service for seniors, Champagnolle Landing now supports daily classes, social groups and their daily meals.
“When we moved over here and started doing the meals from here, we started off with probably 60 to 80 people, and it continued to grow,” said Barbara Warrick, coordinator
of special services at Champagnolle Landing. She said some days, they will serve as many as 125 people.
The senior center is funded by the Area Agency on Aging of Southwest Arkansas, Inc., which Warrick said gets its funding from state and federal money.
“They receive federal and state money and so they have, I think, there’s 12 counties that they’re over and they divvy up the money, and so each year they give us so much to operate on. They tell you how much can be for meals, congregant
meals, and then how much they allow for transportation and so much for socialization,” Warrick said.
They also receive money from nonprofit organizations such as the Union County Community Foundation and United Way.
In 2005, Champagnolle Landing moved to their new location, 910 Champagnolle Road. They now offer services more extensive than the daily meals, though those are still a staple.
“The home delivered meal program provides seniors at least one good meal a day; they are welcome to come up here to eat lunch daily,” Warrick said.
Warrick said Champagnolle Landing hosts exercise classes Monday through Friday. Workouts can range from following video instructions to lifting weights to dancing. One class, offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and a second class that takes place each day is from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
