Commissioners decide to not renew gold pro’s contract
The El Dorado City Council decided not to renew the contract of the then Lions Club Municipal Golf Course professional Mike Hoelzer and instead decided to hire a golf course manager. The decision was made due to lack of interest in play along with the economic concerns as monthly reports indicated that play and finances at the course were down significantly in 2016.

Banquet to honor Boys & Girls Club’s Youth of the Year
The Boys & Girls Club of El Dorado would honor El Dorado High School junior Bre’Ona Douglas at the annual Joe Hickman Youth of the Year Banquet. The program recognizes outstanding teens in local clubs and awards them scholarship money for college.
Douglas was noted for her perseverance and motivation and would go on to com- pete with 10 other local Youth of the Year awardees for the Arkansas Youth of the Year title in Little Rock.

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. as well as two new restaurants, Chicken Express and Dairy Queen, were announced as expected to open in the year. The News-Times report- ed that Hobby Lobby, a 53,000 square-foot located in Mellor Park Mall, would be bringing 30-50 new jobs to the community.
