United Way campaign nets over $1.2M
The United Way of Union County recognized the hard work of many campaign volunteers Tuesday at its annual meeting and campaign celebration. The 2016-2017 cam- paign total was also announced – $1,266,422. This amount was an increase over the previous year’s campaign.

During the 30th SHARE Foundation grant awards ceremony, $48,815 was presented to the South Arkansas Children’s Advocacy Center.
The newly constructed facility was built to be a place to help chil- dren who are victims of abuse.
Arkansas’ First Lady Susan Hutchinson, an advocate for child centers in the state, was also present at the event.

El Dorado Promise starts new trend
The El Dorado Promise was announced 10 years ago on this day, and students at El Dorado High School have celebrated Academic Signing Days every year since then. Two U.S. presidents, as well as governors, senators, local and state officals have gathered through the years to encourage students and speak at the Academic Signing Days.
Locals gathered at the Conifex Timber Inc. site to celebrate the renovation and reopening of the former Georgia-Pacific sawmill.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson along with city and county offi- cials, as well as Great Lakes plant employees, gathered for a ribbon cutting for the Pilot Plant project at the Great Lakes Solutions’ South Plant.
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson was in attendance and spoke to the crowd, thanking the Canadian com- pany for its $80 million investment in the sawmill.
