Cause of fire that led to
death undetermined
March 1 — El Dorado fire- fighters have not been able to determine the cause of a house fire in which a man died last week, but they believe the blaze started accidentally. Fire Chief Chad Mosby said the investiga- tion into the fire at 3108 E. Main remains open.
Seventy-five-year-old Buddy Baugus was pulled from the house by firefighters. Baugus was unresponsive when fire- fighters arrived and he was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas, where he was later pronounced dead. Union County Coroner Curtis Butterfield said Baugus died of smoke inhalation. A woman who lived at the residence was able to escape, firefighters said. Deborah Williams, 48, was transported by ambulance to MSCA for treatment. El Dorado police, who are conducting a joint investigation with the fire department, said Williams did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Mosby said fire inves- tigators believe the fire started near a chair in the living room, but they have not nailed down the cause or ignition source.

The American Red Cross of Union County responded to the airport with food and water for passengers and crew members while they were on the ground in El Dorado.
