Illegal Dumping: The carcasses of several dead beavers and coyotes were dumped on private property near Galilee Road in January 2016. It is legal to kill beavers and coyotes according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission but dumping them is illegal. The hunting season for beavers is Sept. 1 through March 31 and the hunting season for coyotes is July 1 through Feb. 29. They can be killed with archery weapons, a gun no larger than a .22 calibur or a shotgun no larger than a T shot.

Jan. 27 — A chapter began to draw to a close on Strong- Huttig School District Monday night when Superintendent Saul Lusk said he would be resign- ing at the end of the school year. June 30 will be his last day with the district. Lusk had submitted his letter of resigna- tion to the school board mem-
bers in January, and they voted to accept it at their monthly meeting.Lusk said that he had worked in the district for the past 34 years.
Multiple burglaries reported at local businesses
Jan. 29 — Multiple burglaries involving bricks being thrown through the front glass of local businesses were reported by members of the El Dorado Police Department.
Businesses robbed included the Subway located on South Timberlane Drive, Storey’s Floor and Carpet on Lorene Street and Fastenal, an indus- trial supply store located on

MusicFest named state Festival of the Year
Feb. 2 — Two local events made up the top two finalists for the 2015 Arkansas Festival of the Year Award, with one of them grabbing the title for the seventh time and the other entering the competition for the first time.
MusicFest has been named the 2015 Arkansas Festival of the Year, marking the sev- enth time and fifth consecu-
tive year that the Main Street El Dorado flagship festival has received the honor. The win was announced on Jan. 28 during the Arkansas Festival and Events Association’s ALFiE (Arkansans Love Festivals and Events) Awards ceremony in Little Rock.
Local woman charged
with second-degree murder
Feb. 7 — An El Dorado woman is expected to make her first appearance in court today on a charge of second-degree
murder following the death of a 64-year-old man with whom she had lived, according to El Dorado police.
The homicide arrest comes a month after Michelle H. Alexander, 62, of 1005 W. Main, was charged with abuse, exploitation or endangerment of an adult and theft of property for allegedly neglecting Lyndon Strickland, allowing him to live in squalid conditions and steal- ing several pieces of his jewel-
