Salvation Army: A Union County resident visits The Salvation Army El Dorado Corps Community Center on Feb. 28. The Salvation Army was first established in Union County in 1922.

Social services are available Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Red Shield Emergency Shelter is open Monday to Friday from 5:30 to 11 p.m. and on Saturday/Sunday from 1:30 to 11 p.m.
The Murphy Red Shield Diner is open Monday to Saturday, serv- ing lunch from 11:15 a.m. to noon and dinner from 4:15 to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, lunch only is served from noon to 1 p.m.
The Salvation Army Family Store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but is closed from noon to 1 p.m. each day. On Saturday the store is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday.

“The main emphasis for The Salvation Army this year is to live to win souls and to make that the first purpose of our life,” said Lt. Charles Smith, who with his wife, Teri Smith, leads The Salvation Army in El Dorado.
New for 2017 will be the “Commodities Senior Food Program” (CSFP), an aid and income based commodities pro- gram for adults 60 years and up with qualifying income.

Red Shield Diner: Volunteers come in and provide, prepare and serve an evening meal in the Murphy Red Shield Diner. At one time the dining room was called Bread of Life Soup Kitchen, but the Official Name of the dining room is now 'The Murphy Red Shield Diner.'
