Special to the News-Times
EL DORADO — Medical Center of South Arkansas (MCSA) touched many lives over the past year, pos- itively impacting the well-being of South Arkansas and fulfilling its commitment to serve the healthcare needs of the area.
“Our communities can count on MCSA for the healthcare services they need,” said Robert Rupp, chief executive officer of Medical Center of South Arkansas. “Our top priority is to provide every patient with qual- ity, personalized care.”
These high standards have been rec- ognized by national accrediting bod- ies and respected agencies, including designation as a Level III Trauma Center and national accreditation with The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval which is the symbol of quality that reflects an organiza- tion’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. The hospi- tal is also nationally accredited as a Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Clinic and as the only nationally accredited
Chest Pain Center in South Arkansas reflecting our commitment to excel- lence in emergency cardiac care.
Additionally, patients can access more specialty services close to home than ever before. The med- ical staff at MCSA provides sup- port and services for inpatient ser- vices include obstetrics and new- born care, pediatric care, intensive care, ENT, head and neck surgery, general surgery, orthopedics, urol- ogy, physical medicine and rehabil- itation, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, and many other specialties. Outpatient services include one-day surgery, speech therapy, physical and occupational therapies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wound care, gastro- enterology laboratory, intervention- al radiology, MRI, CT and digital mammography. MCSA also offers AR Saves Stroke Telemedicine services, providing access to lifesaving stroke expertise.
Recently, MCSA began programs to train and certify all qualified staff members in dementia care as a part of the statewide initiative to
make Arkansas dementia friendly. Angie Norman, DNP, APRN, con- sults patients who currently have or are concerned about dementia at the South Arkansas Center on Aging Clinic located on the MCSA campus.
As MCSA continuously evaluates how to best respond to patient needs, it also gives back to the area in char- ity and uncompensated care to the area’s most in-need residents. The hospital also leaves a sizable foot- print in property and business taxes, which in turn fund civic resources and services.
MCSA is introducing a Patient Ambassador service to assist patients with selecting their daily dietary menu and added a culinary trained chef who brings new and delicious menu options for employees, patient families and the community in the Homestyle Café. The hospital leads by example in encouraging employ- ees to make healthy choices by pro- viding an extra discount to those selecting from the healthy bar which includes salad bar, heart healthy entrees and side dishes.
MCSA has worked with a num- ber of local non-profit and com- munity organizations over the last year, including South Arkansas Community College; S.H.A.R.E.; #teamcorrie; Relay for Life; Pink Sock Campaign with area high schools; South Arkansas Symphony; Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout; Boys and Girls Club; El Dorado Service League; the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce, Union County Leadership; Turning Point; MusicFest; UAMS MASH Program and other area festivals. Additionally, MCSA has active Senior Circle and Healthy Woman programs and pro- vided community health screen- ings at area companies and special events including Go Red for Men and Women, Head to Toe Health Fair for Seniors and Girlfriends Giggle.
“All of this is possible through the skills and dedication of our employ- ees, medical staff and volunteers,” said Robert Rupp. “We thank them for their unwavering commitment which gives us a strong foundation for continued success.”
