of three means a student is meeting grade level expectations, independently mastering the skill. It may take all school year for a student to master a skill and earn a three on a particular standard.”
New elementary school programs also include a literacy curriculum, Orton Gillingham strate- gies for “struggling learners,” flexible seating and “Capturing Kids’ Hearts” — a program that “focus- es on transforming classrooms into high-achieving centers of learning.”
Washington Middle School Principal Jody Vines’ goals include “providing second-to-none STEM opportunities for our students, improving achieve- ment in the area of reading and mathematics as indi- cated on standardized tests (and) partnering with community businesses to provide real-life STEM experiences for ... students.”

Area business- es interested in helping WMS’ STEM competition classes can contact Vines at 870-864-5032.

“We will continue to grow our library maker space by encouraging student creativity through 3D printing, building robots, and coding,” Sandifer said. “Another new program at Washington will be the addition of a videography/cinematography elective. In this class, students will use digital medium in order to create augmented reality, movies, apps and more. Students will learn to use green screens and produce various videos for competitions.”
