Botox is a Drug, NOT a Party Favor
Have you ever been invited to a Botox party? While it is a good idea to ask friends who they’d recommend, the treatment itself should be done with one-on-one medical attention. Just as the tools have increased, medical supervision has decreased. The restrictions regarding neurotoxin and dermal fillers have been under increasing scrutiny. Physicians have long directed the work of others. When the physician actively oversees their staff, this system works yet, across the US, regulations are increasing to protect the patient. The state of Tennessee permits only registered nurses and physicians to inject and in the state of Mississippi only the licensed physician can inject. In Arkansas, the rules are less restrictive and clinicians under the supervision of a doctor, also dentists, have been permitted to provide treatment. There is a bill currently under consideration in AR to tighten state rules.
Regardless of local regulation it is important to research before receiving any aesthetic treatment. Choose a facility with a good reputation. Don’t be afraid to be cautious. Taking care of yourself starts with doing your homework. When visiting the clinic:
Assess the professionalism and cleanliness of the facility. To ensure your safety, it is a good idea to assess their social distancing and PPE protocols. Make sure you feel comfortable and trust them to perform the procedure.
Look for a physician who is sincere, unhurried and does not sugar-coat what you can expect from your treatment. A good physician will discuss any concerns to ensure you are comfortable before administering treatment.
Interview and ask questions regarding their experience. Ask how many times they have performed the procedure you are considering.
Know the cost before you proceed. Prices vary. A professional aesthetic clinic will present a plan and the costs upfront. Review any possible side effects. Qualifications matter, they should be prepared to recognize and treat any complications that occur.
Find out about post-treatment care and follow-up. A good practitioner schedules follow-up to assure they have met treatment goals.
Once you have had your questions answered and are comfortable with the physician and the facility, you can relax knowing that you have made an educated decision and are in good hands.
