As the holiday sea- son draws to a close and you prepare for
your last minute shopping, think twice before going online or out of town to purchase those gifts.
“Shopping local saves in both time and fuel, espe- cially with the extra shop- ping needs during our holi- days. Shopping locally also helps our local shop own- ers to compete with on-line shopping and to continue to improve their available products,” said El Dorado Mayor Frank Hash.
Shopping local is not only important to the small businesses in El Dorado and Union County, but supporting local merchants is important to the overall health and economy of the community.
“I believe for a commu-
nity to survive it must have small business own- ers,” said El Dorado- Union County Chamber of Commerce President Mike Dumas.
“The big box stores serve a purpose from groceries to clothing but the small family businesses provide the atmosphere for com- fortable shopping,” Dumas said. “Look around — what would El Dorado or any community look like with- out the small businesses?”
