language, and swallowing disor- ders using unique and motivating intervention strategies. To main- tain a holistic treatment approach, these three disciplines also incor- porate non-traditional therapeu- tic interventions that, when com- bined with traditional therapy, pro- mote life-changing results. These specialized treatments include Interactive Metronome, therapeu- tic listening, hippotherapy (using the movement of a horse), and aquatic therapy (using a water- filled pool) to achieve desired therapy goals as outlined in each child’s customized plan of care.
Although crucial to the finished product, this is only the black and white of HOPE Landing, Inc. To the greatest depths of its core, this organization is so much more than its five original artists could have ever possibly dreamed it would be. The colors that bring these blank spaces to life are immedi- ately apparent to all who enter the red gates. It is a sanctuary where socializing soothes stressors; where parents feel at peace; where
hearts shattered by an unfathom- able diagnosis are healed; where family units are restored; where siblings find support; where pres- sure is released in prayer; where unbreakable bonds are formed between therapist and child; and where students receive the gift of both personal and profession- al growth through its enriching environment. However, without a doubt, the most vibrant colors of all, which have been uniquely cre- ated in His own image and likeness by the master artist Himself, are the children. HOPE Landing, Inc. is where those who have never used their arms reach for the sky; where those who have never walked make strides; and where those who have never talked say “hi.” It is a home where a family of administrators, therapists, children, and families come together to turn hope into reality. This is how the Man behind the masterpiece intended HOPE Landing, Inc. to be – and the most beautiful part of it all – He is never going to run out of crayons.
Mickey Pfliiger, one of the stu- dents currently doing clinical field- work at HOPE, wrote her version of our story for this article and we are very happy with her result.
