Outdoor Expo, Airstreams on Main coincide for outdoor-themed weekend
By Caitlan Butler

Free family fun is fast approaching, with the upcoming SouthArk Outdoor Expo, sponsored by Cross Oil/Martin Operating Partnership and Sewell Oil, scheduled for Sept. 7.
The Expo, presented by the South Arkansas Community College Foundation, is returning for its 21st year to bring outdoor-themed entertainment, education and activities to south Arkansas residents.
This year’s Expo coincides with the second ever Airstreams on the Square camping weekend, which will bring travelers in classic Airstream
camper-trailers to the Union Square District downtown to promote the Americana lifestyle and stimulate economic vitality.
This year’s Expo brings several changes and additions, though all of the staple-favorites of the festival will still be included.
The Expo starts that Saturday morning with the Maj. Ronald Wayne Culver Hero 5k Walk/ Run. The 5k is a memorial to Culver, a longtime El Dorado resident who was killed while serving in Iraq in 2010.
The Expo will have a special emphasis on the Hero run this year, said SouthArk Foundation director Cynthia Reyna; along with Culver and others in uniform, first responders will also be highlighted this year.
“We are very excited to announce that we are honoring all of our local heroes this
year and for future years to come at the Hero 5k. We want to recognize the strength, perseverance and courage of firefighters, EMTs (emergency medical technicians), police officers and the military from our local community,” said Christy Cottrell, SouthArk Foundation development coordinator.
Two new divisions have been added to the run. Now those aged 70 and older can compete to win. There is also a new walking category.
