Welcome back to
the South Arkansas
Hunting and
Sporting Guide
By Katie Meade
Special to the News-Times
Hello again to all and welcome to the 2018 Hunting and Sporting Guide!
I can’t believe it is already time to start planning for hunting season and I couldn’t be more excited! I feel a little weird since this is the first time I’m not working on this edition in-house
or seeing businesses for ads, but we all came together to bring you the fourth edition of this publication. It was an idea I had shortly after I came to work at the News-Times and we have had so much fun bringing it to the camo-clad majority of Union County and surrounding areas.
Hunting season is a family tradition for many. Deer camps become the social hot spots for most blue collar families.
The husband, wife, kids, neighbors and dogs all spend their weekends and saved vacation days for fall and winter. You will even see people that don’t hunt at their friend’s deer camp just to socialize. A big fire in the homemade fire pit surrounded
by friends and family is all you need to relax and leave your worries at home.
With bow season opening in just a few weeks along with
teal and dove season, it is time to get prepared. I promise you will find just about everything you need inside. Whether you need a new gun, ammo, bow repair/ tuning, deer processing, taxidermist, clothes, boots, deer corn, feeders, camp supplies or someone to bush hog a shooting lane, you can find all of this and more just by turning the pages!
Go to the camp, hit the woods and make some memories
this fall and winter. Whether you are in pursuit of deer, ducks, hogs, squirrels, rabbits or are working on predator trapping, be safe and have fun. Take a kid with you, too. The things that you can teach a child in the outdoors aren’t taught in a classroom. Show your kids how to track an animal, use a compass, identify animal tracks, teach them animal sounds and show them how to process game because eating is a necessity.
Happy hunting season everybody!
