said. “I come to work and learn something new everyday. Some of those things are from Mike, but I do think we com- pliment each other.”
In her free time, she volunteered at the arts center and on her first project, she worked on the production crew for the Stephen Schwartz musical “Godspell.” Her husband also immersed himself in the arts center and joined the visual arts committee, she said.
“I probably did more in costuming, set design and construc- tion (in college),” Means said. “Here we have a lot people who are comfortable with those aspects of theater so I did more lighting that I ever thought I would do when I was in college. It’s very rewarding. It’s like 3D sculpting in light.”
As the arts center grew, she was asked to join its admin- istration. The marketing director said her work behind the art center’s theater curtain isn’t even a quarter of her daily responsibilities. In addition to her administrative work, she also serves the community by teaching stage production to area youth.
A statement on the SAAC’s website reads, “The staff at the South Arkansas Arts Center each has a title as you can see. In reality, each and every one of us wears many more hats.”
“I’m learning everyday here, too ... A lot students come through here, so you get to share your knowledge and train- ing,” she said. “It’s fun to train the kids when they come through and teach them about the equipment, how to use it and how to run the light boards.”
