An El Dorado man who was killed along with two dogs in a fire at a local business early Friday morning is believed to have succumbed to smoke inhalation. Travis Izatt, who was 43 or 44, was found dead inside a storage room of his business at 311 W. Fifth — formerly Pro Glass and Tint of El Dorado.
Jan. 7
The El Dorado Water and Sewer Commis- sion has agreed to a $2.2 million project to replace commercial and manual water meters in the El Dorado Water Utilities’ system. The project will use cellular technology to change out 4,400 manually read meters and 5,100 auto- matic meter readers, or drive-by meters.
An El Dorado man is expected to make his first appearance in court today for allegedly beating and attempting to drug his ex-girlfriend, sending her running naked and crying to a neighbor’s house for help, according to an El Dorado police report.
Marc B. McCuistion, 51, of 1001 W. Faulkner, was arrested Tuesday for second-degree do- mestic battering, introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, and first-degree terroristic-threatening.
A 42-year-old Calion woman who allegedly shot her husband in the chest Tuesday was is- sued a bond of $100,000 at her first appearance hearing in 35th District Court on Wednesday. Joann Davis was charged with domestic battery in the first degree, a class-B felony punishable by five to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.

STRONG – The identity of a man killed at Newsom’s Pharmacy in Strong, as well as new information regarding the Thursday morning robbery of the business, has been released, with two suspects arrested in connection to the crime.
Artago Howard, of Monroe, La., was inside the facility and after confronting Howard, a Union County Sheriff’s Office deputy and the suspect struggled for control of the deputy’s service weapon, which led to the firearm dis- charging and hitting the suspect. Howard con- tinued to try to leave the store and the deputy was eventually able to restrain him, though he continued to resist.
Emergency assistance was dispatched upon the deputy’s discovery that Howard had been shot. The suspect later died at the scene.
In connection to the robbery, two suspects – Robert L. Hill and Marcus Antonia, both of Monroe, La. – were arrested. Both have been charged with burglary, capital murder, sec- ond-degree battery and theft of property.

Shunvontia O. Bullock, 25, of El Dorado, was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Kristopher Cook on Dec. 18. Another 22-year-old man, Cliffdeon Minor, was

shot in the leg during the incident. Minor was not seriously injured. Cook was pronounced dead after officers arrived on the scene at ap- proximately 4:30 p.m.

CAMDEN – Austin Hill and Jaquestin Anderson, 19, were charged in the shooting death of Mac’s Fresh Food Market Manager Richard Anders.
Jan. 16
Cedric M. Hollins Jr., 27, of El Dorado, is expected to make his first appearance in 35th Judicial District Court on felony charges of capital murder, aggravated residential bur- glary, possession of a firearm by a certain person, and engaging in criminal group activ- ity in the shooting death of Kristopher Cook on Dec. 18 at 1215 E. Cedar. Police have said that Cook was shot several times. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Another man, 22-year-old Cliffdeon Minor, was wounded in the shooting. He was treated at Medical Center of South Arkansas for non-life threat- ening injuries.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Roger Clayton Wilson, 50, of 1501 Emmett, was driving a 1995 Honda south on the highway at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the road and struck a group
of pine trees. Wilson was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Jan. 17
A third man has been arrested for his alleged role in a fatal shooting that occurred last month at an El Dorado residence.
Billy R. Jones Jr., 24, of 418 S. Flenniken, turned himself in Friday morning to El Do- rado police for his suspected involvement in the Dec. 18 shooting death of 22-year-old Kristopher Cook.
Cook was pronounced dead after police responded to a report of someone having been shot at 1215 E. Cedar. He died of multi- ple gunshot wounds.

A letter of censure was issued to Union County District Court Judge George Van Hook Jr., according to a news release from the Judicial Discipline and Disability Com- mission in Little Rock. He is a full-time dis- trict court judge for the 13th Judicial District serving Union County and has served in his current position since 1991.
A censure is a formal sanction for violat- ing the Code of Judicial Conduct. It is a dec- laration that a judge is guilty of misconduct that does not require suspension or removal. A censure may include a requirement that the judge follow a specified corrective court of action. The letter of censure states that
Van Hook is alleged to have committed vi- olations of the Code of Judicial Conduct in several cases.

SMACKOVER — Following a brief discus- sion and comments from each board mem- ber, the Smackover-Norphlet School board voted against changing anything about the Buckaroo mascot and its colors of black and white during the next phase of consolidating the Smackover and Norphlet schools.

JACKSONVILLE (AP) — Arkansas Crime Laboratory officials and the Pulaski County coroner’s office have removed about 30 bod- ies from a suburban Little Rock funeral home after its license was temporarily suspended by the state Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.
The licenses of Arkansas Funeral Care and its manager, LeRoy Wood, were tempo- rarily suspended Wednesday during an emer- gency hearing after an inspector reported finding bodies stacked atop each other in a cooler this month at the Jacksonville busi- ness, while other bodies had been left outside of the cooler to decompose.
The bodies were being taken to the cor- oner’s office and the Crime Lab for holding until families were notified, the lab’s execu- tive director, Kermit Channell II, said.
