his year, we could not believe the number of ballots our readers submitted to deter- mine who is the “Best of The Best” for the News-Times Readers’ Choice Awards.
Represented here are many businesses chosen by our readers as those at the top of their list of people with whom they like to shop or turn to for profes- sional services.
Also included this year are new categories for best Public Servant, Non-Profit Volunteer and Non- Profit Organization among other new categories. For these, there were many worthy causes that received votes and many public servants that got votes. We tip our hat to all of them as they make sig- nificant contributions to our community every year.

as we received many more votes cast this year. It took 10 people more than seven days to process them all. If you can imagine trying to read all manner of handwriting, you can begin to appreciate the challenge.
To that end, there were a number
of readers who exhibited beautiful-
ly crafted penmanship and made
our task a little easier. Among those
were Linda Peace, Jessica Holt,
Debbie Lawson, Debbie Langford,
Alexis Alexander and John Lee all
of El Dorado. Debra Harrison of Norphlet also had a good hand.
There were many others I’m sure, but those names stood out among the hundreds of ballots I personal- ly processed. Yes, that’s right, I joined in on process-

ing all those ballots and can tell you it requires a lot of focus and lots of time.
Due to the large number of ballots I even enlisted the help of my wife, Greta, to whom I am eternally grateful. I thank all the members of our staff who also pitched in to get the job done and know I owe everyone lunch — it was a huge task.
Also, I want to offer a big “Thank You” to all of the News-Times readers who took the time to voice their opinions on the businesses and organizations they feel best serve them.
We hope our readers find the 2016 edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards helpful, and we extend our hardiest congratulations to this year’s winners. Congratulations also to Mitzi Brock of Smackover who won the $100 drawing from all the reader bal- lots that were cast.
